Inventory and refill reminders
DoseAlert can track how many pills, patches, puffs, or millilitres of a medication you have left, and remind you to refill before you run out.
Turning on inventory tracking
- Add or edit a medication.
- Scroll to Inventory.
- Enter the current count — for example, 30 tablets, 120 mL of liquid, 200 puffs on an inhaler, 14 patches in the box.
- Enter a refill reminder threshold — the count at which you want to be reminded. A week's worth of doses is a common choice.
- Save.
How the count updates
Every time you tap Taken, DoseAlert subtracts the dose amount from the count. If you have 30 tablets and your dose is 2 tablets, taking one dose drops the count to 28.
Skipped doses and Not sure entries do not affect inventory.
The refill reminder
The moment your count drops below the threshold, DoseAlert fires a one-shot "Refill reminder" notification on the quiet channel. You'll also see a red Refill reminder badge on the medication card in the Today view.
Tap the badge (or open the medication detail screen) to add to count once you've picked up a new bottle. Enter the number of pills you added and DoseAlert bumps the total.
Per-dose consumption
DoseAlert knows:
- 1 tablet per dose → deduct 1 per Taken
- 2 puffs per dose → deduct 2
- 5 mL per dose → deduct 5
If your dose isn't a whole number (e.g. 2.5 tablets), DoseAlert rounds to the nearest whole number when deducting. The remaining count is always a whole number.
When inventory gets out of sync
If you dropped a pill on the floor, counted wrong, or got a partial refill, tap the medication in the Meds tab and edit the count directly. Everything is under your control — DoseAlert just estimates based on logged doses.
If you remove a logged "Taken" dose (because you marked it by accident), DoseAlert automatically adds the deducted pills back to the count to keep things consistent.
Turning inventory tracking off
Leave the inventory field blank (or set it to empty) on any medication and DoseAlert simply won't track its count. No refill reminders, no badge, nothing else changes.
