App crashed or opens to a blank screen
Crashes are rare but not unheard of. Here's how to recover without losing your data, and what to send support so we can fix the underlying cause.
First, don't delete the app
DoseAlert keeps all of your data on your device. Deleting the app deletes the data too. Always try the recovery steps below before reinstalling.
Step 1 — Force-quit and reopen
- iPhone: swipe up from the bottom, pause in the middle, find DoseAlert, and swipe it up to close. Then tap the icon to reopen.
- Android: tap the square button (or swipe up), find DoseAlert, swipe it closed. Tap to reopen.
Step 2 — Restart your phone
Power off and back on. This clears out transient issues with memory or notifications.
Step 3 — Check for updates
Make sure you're on the latest version of DoseAlert.
- iPhone: App Store > your profile > look for DoseAlert under updates.
- Android: Google Play > your profile > Manage apps & device > Updates available.
Step 4 — Back up your data (before anything drastic)
If DoseAlert opens at all, even briefly, try to get to Settings > Back up data and save a backup. If the app won't open long enough to let you do this, skip to the next step.
Step 5 — Update your phone's operating system
Older OS versions occasionally have bugs that cause app crashes. Check for a system update:
- iPhone: Settings > General > Software Update.
- Android: Settings > System > Software update.
Step 6 — Reinstall as a last resort
Reinstalling DoseAlert deletes all medications, dose history, and settings. Only do this if you have a backup or are willing to start over.
Uninstall DoseAlert, then reinstall from the App Store or Google Play. Restore from your backup file if you have one. Restore purchases from Settings so you don't have to pay again.
Send us the crash details
DoseAlert automatically sends crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics (with no personal data). But human context helps too. Email support@moosemediafsj.ca with:
- What you were doing when it crashed
- Which screen you were on
- Your phone model and OS version
- Your DoseAlert version (Settings > About)
