Reminders are not firing
This is almost always caused by your phone's battery-saving settings killing DoseAlert in the background. Here's how to fix it, one type of phone at a time.
Start here: the quick test
First, confirm DoseAlert can fire a notification at all.
- Open Settings > Sounds.
- Tap Reminder with sound.
- Lock your phone and wait 5 seconds.
- If you get the test notification — notifications themselves are working; the problem is background restrictions. Jump to the next section for your phone brand.
- If you don't get the test notification — the problem is notification permission. See Notifications and permissions.
Samsung (Galaxy S, A, Note, Tab series)
Samsung is one of the most aggressive about killing background apps. Do all of these:
- Open Settings > Battery.
- Tap Background usage limits.
- Tap Never sleeping apps and add DoseAlert.
- Back out to Settings. Open Apps > DoseAlert > Battery.
- Set to Unrestricted.
On some Samsung models, also turn off Put unused apps to sleep and Auto-disable unused apps in the main Battery settings.
Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO (MIUI)
- Open Settings > Apps > Manage apps > DoseAlert.
- Tap Autostart and turn it on.
- Back out. Open the Security app.
- Tap Permissions > Autostart and make sure DoseAlert is on.
- In the Security app, also tap Battery > App battery saver, find DoseAlert, and set it to No restrictions.
- Long-press DoseAlert in the recent-apps view and tap the padlock icon to lock it in memory.
Huawei (EMUI / HarmonyOS)
- Open Settings > Battery > App launch.
- Find DoseAlert.
- Turn off Manage automatically.
- Turn on all three switches: Auto-launch, Secondary launch, Run in background.
OnePlus (OxygenOS / ColorOS)
- Open Settings > Battery > Battery optimisation.
- Tap the menu, choose All apps.
- Find DoseAlert and set to Don't optimise.
- Also: Settings > Apps > DoseAlert > Battery usage > Allow background activity.
Oppo (ColorOS)
- Open Settings > Battery > App Quick Freeze.
- Turn off the toggle for DoseAlert.
- Also: Settings > App Management > DoseAlert > Battery usage > Allow background activity.
Vivo (FuntouchOS / OriginOS)
- Open Settings > Battery > Background power consumption management.
- Find DoseAlert and tap Don't restrict background power consumption.
- Also: Settings > More settings > Applications > Autostart > DoseAlert (on).
Google Pixel (stock Android)
- Open Settings > Apps > DoseAlert > Battery.
- Set to Unrestricted.
- Check that Battery saver (Settings > Battery > Battery Saver) isn't currently on; it can delay notifications.
iPhone / iPad
iOS is generally more reliable, but a few things can block reminders:
- Settings > Notifications > DoseAlert. Allow notifications on.
- Turn on Lock Screen, Notification Centre, and Banners.
- Set Banner Style to Persistent.
- Turn on Sounds and Badges.
- Turn on Time Sensitive Notifications so reminders break through Focus modes.
- Make sure your phone isn't in a Focus mode that silences DoseAlert (check Settings > Focus).
- Restart your phone (long-press the side + volume buttons, slide to power off).
