Tutorial — Manage medications for a parent or partner
If you help manage your mother's medications as well as your own, you don't need two accounts or two apps. Profiles let you keep each person's info separate on one phone.
Why profiles
Your medications and your mom's medications shouldn't mix. Separate profiles mean separate Today views, separate reminders, and separate Pill Tracker histories — without the hassle of logging in and out.
Step 1 — Open the Family tab
Tap Family at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2 — Add a profile
- Tap Add profile.
- Enter the person's name (e.g. Mom or Dad).
- Save.
The profile is now in the Family list. It's empty — add medications next.
Step 3 — Switch to the new profile
Tap the new profile's name. The whole app updates: Today, Pill Tracker, Meds, and Settings all now show that profile's data.
Your original profile is still there — you can switch back any time.
Step 4 — Add their medications
Use the + button as normal. Everything you add now belongs to this profile. Learn how in Add your first medication.
Step 5 — Switch back when you're done
On the Family tab, tap your own profile. You're back to your own medications and history.
Reminders fire regardless
You don't need to be on a profile for its reminders to fire. DoseAlert fires every reminder for every profile at the scheduled time, and each reminder clearly names the profile it belongs to ("Mom's 8 AM: Metformin").
When you tap a reminder, DoseAlert opens to that profile so you can log the dose in the right place.
Pairing a caregiver on just one profile
Each profile can be paired with a different caregiver. Switch to the profile first, then do the pairing walkthrough.
Renaming or removing a profile
On the Family tab, long-press the profile to rename. Tap the edit icon to delete (this is permanent — back up first).
A tip for adult children managing parents
Before you set up the parent's profile, use the prescription scanner on each of their pharmacy bottles. It's much faster than typing.
